Campbell University or Ohio Northern
« on: December 11, 2007, 11:29:18 am »
Is anyone going to either Campbell Uinversity or Ohio Northern the weekend after that just after the first of the year?

Does anyone know the teams that will be at either one? I have heard a few of the teams, but don't know the entire field.

No, Furman is one of the teams that their coordinator rattled off to our coach over the phone.

University of St. Francis will be attending ONU's tournament...I also believe that I heard Western Michigan is going (but I could be wrong). Also, I believe that Case Western attends yearly...but again, could be wrong.

Well, if that list is accurate best wishes to all who are attending. I don't see how they are going to possibly accomodate that number of teams given their prior history and the recent shakeup within their administration...

They have the whole thing planned out, according to her. Also there administration is behind them 100%, there aren't any issues with that either. I am sure it will be a fun tournament.

Actually, I am the captain @ Campbell... that list IS accurate - I created it.  Furman IS sending a team and we shall be able to accommodate the entire list.  We have had some issues with our administration but those issues have been resolved.  I don't understand why you have negativity regarding our "history"?  Have you attended one of our tournaments?  I would appreciate any feedback as to better serve this year's tournament

I have heard rumblings from Northern that they have 40 teams and a 16 team wait list. Some notables are Wake, Miami of OH, Cinci, St. Francis, Loyola, Bowling Green, kenyon, notre dame, Mich State, and UM. The wait list is also impressive with Carnagie Mellon, and Vanderbilt along with OSU all waiting to get a shot. Should be some fun times in Ohio that weekend hopefully their weather holds. My contact says they call their campus the tundra so here is hoping it isn't living to its name on MLK weekend.

Well, if it does snow, then at least teams have MLK Day to work with, and still not miss class. Although, that would be fun to be stuck out of state, and not be able to get to any of my classes!

That field is going to be one heck of a tournament!!!

That is one heck of a field. Any pre-invitational predictions? Any sleepers? I am not sure of all the rules. I do not know if that kind of thing is allowed on here.

Wow, St.Francis was listed with the top teams that are going to be there. I don't know if we are that good yet. I did saw a post about any pre-invite predictions, and if there were any sleepers. I will give my top ten prediction to get some people riled up.

1. Miami (OH)
2. Wake Forest (if they go)
3. Notre Dame
4. Bowling Green
5. Michigan
6. Notre Dame
7. Loyola
8. St.Francis
9. Ohio Northern
10. UI-Chicago

Of course, the top ten might fluctuate, but these are the teams that I think will be in the top ten. The one that might fall farther down would be St.Francis because they are not traveling their full team, and have a couple first time witnesses coming with. Of course, all this could change depending on the same variable for these other programs as well, but its my prediction.

A couple sleepers that could sneak in to the top ten are:

Case Western, Butler, another Wake Forest team, another Loyola team, and the overall sleeper, Kenyon (they have a pretty good team from what I have heard)

But thats just me, think of it what you will and discuss.

Till next time............

I disagree slightly

First, this list is if Wake attends
1.Wake
2. ND
3. Miami
4. UM
5. Loyola
6. ONU
7. ND
8.BGSU
9. Wake
10. SFU

Sleepers: Kenyon can be good if they want to be, UIC could be dangerous, and MSU might do some things. Although it is mock trial anyone could get most anyone given the right judges.

Oh, for the sake of good fun...here are my predictions (excluding my own team of course, because that is only slightly biased). I am known to be horribly wrong with overall predictions, but these are the teams that I am really curious to see!  :gavel:

1.) Miami (of Ohio)
2.) Michigan
3.) Notre Dame
4.) Wake Forest
5.) Loyola
6.) Cincinnati
7.) Case Western
8.) Michigan State
9.) Bowling Green
10.) Kenyon

Sleepers...anyone...I have faced many of the teams competing at this tournament and no team will be an "easy" team. I see various strengths in Butler, ONU, UIC, and Western Michigan this year during competition and I do not put it past anyone to take this tournament. I am very much looking forward to competing in January!

I'm not going to give a top 10 because I can't decide...more than half the field could be in the top 10.  I will give an opinion on sleepers though:

University of Illinois - Chicago: I don't know why people aren't listing them (I think they've been listed once), but they went to the Championship tournament last year.  Unless they had 100% turnover and are this year fielding a team of just freshmen (highly implausible), they'll be contenders for the top 5.  I don't regard them as sleepers, because I think "sleeper" implies a surprise.  If UIC is in the top 10, it should surprise no one.  I just thought they were being overlooked.

Case Western: They've gone to the national tournament the past two years, taking third at their regional last year.  Put up a good showing at invitationals this year as well.  Having mocked against them before, they've shown a lot of potential.  If they can put it all together, this is a very strong team.

Eastern Michigan: Saw them at nationals last year - very good team.  Outstanding witnesses and knowledge of evidence.  Sort of the same deal as UIC: unless everyone on that team was a senior and graduated, they'll be another team to watch out for.

Cal Poly Pomona: Have to put them in here just because, being from the midwest, I've never mocked against them and I don't know of their reputation.  If they're coming all the way from Pomona, they'll be trying to make it worth their while.

Well, ExcitedUtterance where would you put your team if you had to put them. I mean it should be stated for all to see how you really feel about your team. I am surely am curious to know. Where would you put your team and who is your team? Yes, I am putting you on the spot because I can and that is what perjuries is for!!!

As for UIC, I put them up there and they deserve it, they are a really good team and I would not put anything past them. But, I want to know who Excited Utterence's team is and what that person  feels about their team,,,....

This is why Perjuries is ridiculous.  You have people who obviously have no idea what they are talking about posting rankings of teams they obviously haven't researched.  Hahahahahahaha.  I'm not offended, I'm disgusted.  hahahahha.  oh god.

before anyone goes around making predictions you should probably research first.
for example: the Miami team that is going to this tournament is not the one that won MTSU or the Pohlman or placed second at Pitt. They are our 4th freshman team.

that is not to say they can not win, they could. It is just in the interest of the best information getting out there.

Sucks that they put this kickass ONU tournament the first weekend of the semester.

I'm somewhat surprised that some teams got 3 groups in considering there is a wait list. You would think they would just limit everyone to 2 teams.

We were there last year and placed in the top 5.  This year the field is so much more competitive, we're going to be fighting to break into the top 10.

Given how much different and better the field is from last year, I don't think there's any comparison that can be made <sarcasm> aside from the following :  There will be mock courtrooms, mock trial teams, and judges.  There will be places and awards.</sarcasm>

The only thing I remember worth noting is that our judges were coaches of other teams in all but one round.

We were there last year also. I am sure you can tell what team I am from and it was a pretty well run tournament. The field is a bit larger and like the post before me, the field is a stronger overall than last year. I think that you will enjoy this tournament, it is in a small city, and it is just easier to maneuver around. Just remember it is still an invitational and you need to enjoy yourselves, as well as get better at the same time. As for the judges, our team had all law students except for one round when we had a coach and an attorney. See you there.
