The "Great Sonoran Showdown" Mock Trial Invitational
« on: April 23, 2008, 03:17:49 pm »
I wanted to take this opportunity to announce an invitational this fall. On the weekend of November 8th and 9th, the University of Arizona will be hosting the "Great Sonoran Showdown" Invitational in Tucson, Arizona.  All four rounds will be held at the Pima County Superior Courthouse.

There are currently plenty of spots open for registration. If your team or any team you know may be interested feel free to pm or email me at wlodarco AT email DOT arizona DOT edu.  Also contact me if you have any other questions regarding potential participation at this invitational.

More info to come.

Corey I actually had a question for you, but I'm sure other people are interested, so I'll just post it here.

I recently became aware that there two competing mock trial programs at Arizona, one called the Law Cats or something? and then there's the original University of Arizona Mock Trial Association.

Can you further explain the situation? How does that work?

I love any tournament that has the word "showdown" in it.  :)

Last name? Huh?

Yes, this is my last name, learn it, memorize it, and learn to pronounce :).

MT4e, to be honest, I'm not the best one to answer that question. It's a long complicated story of which I've completely isolated myself from :)

I promise more details about the tournament will be included as soon as I can give them.

I’ll  field this question, Corey can focus on the tournament.  :-)

My name is Brian, and I am the President of Mock Trial @ the University of Arizona – at least I am for the next week until we have elections and I graduate.

There were two competing organizations on our campus this past year – us and the Law Cats. The Law Cats club was started this past season after some internal conflicts in our program.

Our club was registered with AMTA by our staff advisor, who has been the advisor of our program for its entire existence.
The campus administration was alerted to the two competing clubs on campus and is considering some policy changes for next year. I have met with them several times to discuss solutions, but as of now there will continue to be two clubs on our campus next year.

I hope that clears up your question. If not, please let me know

It reminds me of a western style showdown. High noon and all that.
