Hey does anyone know whether or not this tournament is by invitation again this year. If so, have the invitations been sent out and does anyone know which teams are going?
Thanks!

I don't know if it's invitation only, but UMM's been invited, and we're going.

It's gonna be awesome. We might even get airfare from the U because the destination is news worthy.

Ok, this may be very ignorant, but... What's the difference between Harvard College and Harvard University?

I would imagine the college is a separate entity from the university itself. For example, a university can have a grad school program, a law program, a med program, and a college.

Harvard College is the undergraduate portion of Harvard University just as Harvard Law School is the law school unit of the University.

Hmmm, ok, I thought that's what it was, but I wasn't sure. The whole Columbia University/ Columbia College, etc... had me thinking there was a possibility that they were distinct universities.

If this is true, though, then why does AMTA and every other undergraduate collegiate association refer to the undergraduate portion as Harvard University? See: AMTA and NCAA for prime examples.

I can't answer for certain, but I would venture to say it is the same reason that those teams affiliated with Political Science or Communication departments compete under the college/university name instead of the name of their college of Arts and Sciences (or whatever academic unit the department is placed within).  Even though their particular academic affiliation is with a subunit of the larger academic institution, those teams are competing on behalf of the entire university.  So, they use the university's name.

So does anyone else know if all the invitations have been passed out and who is going? Thanks!

I'm fairly certain the invitations have been passed out; it seems to be just a matter of waiting for the invited teams to accept or pass their invitations on.

Just got back from there.  A pleasure to be able to judge and compete in the Suffolk Superior Courthouse.
