Worst run tournament. Ever.

$150 per team=
Law School students every round (they couldn't find attorneys in downtown Philadelphia?)
EVERYTHING ran late, including opening ceremonies
Poor organization throughout, including a lack of schedule or roster in the registration packet
Maps with the wrong buildings color-coded in

Bobble-heads for trophies? Please. It's hard to believe this was the 6th time hosting a tournament...

Worst run tournament. Ever.

I agree that this tournament was not well-run. (It reminded me so much of Yale.) I also agree the price is not worth the product. The solution, I think, is for other schools in the area to step up and offer some competition to this tournament. I am certainly exploring this avenue for next year. (Hopefully they'll be some interest from other schools...)

My question is: why on Earth would Penn would use Celebrity Jeopardy categories as team names? I mean, I understand many tournaments use themes for their rounds but.....Celebrity Jeopardy categories??

Most of those categories are VERY long phrases that do not fit on a ballot. To wit:
"Members of Simon and Garfunkel"
"Famous Kareem Abdul Jabbars"
"States that start 'Californ'."

Hilarious when used as Jeopardy categories on a comedy program.
Absolutely stupid when used as team names in a mock trial competition. It's as if they thought those names were only used among students and didn't have to fit on a small line on a ballot that is given to judges.

Methinks numbers and letters would be a better team name than "colors that end in 'urple'." But maybe I'm just getting old.

In any event, congratulations to the winners. For a tournament so early in the year, I was impressed with the preparation of the students in second round I judged.
